I hate the word “better than..”

I hate the word “better than”. You know why? It implies comparison.
At some point, it felt like I was always trying to be “better than……”. But as I grow older, I discover that there is no need to always strive to be “better than...” rather the emphasis should be on growing. Whatever you do, just ensure that you are growing- that’s what really matters.
For so many of us, it seems like life is forever a competition. To succeed, we feel we always have to be better than the next person. But success is really about being the best version of ourselves per time. The worst part about this mentality of comparison is that when others succeed, it feels like their success diminishes our chances. So, we find it hard to celebrate their wins. Industry trends have sold us the scarcity mentality. They make us think in terms of job vacancies, if one person gets the job, that means one less opportunity.
This is the truth: your life is not in comparison to anyone. You are enough. You have something unique to offer. Sometimes it might seem as though being in the same industry with another person warrants competition and comparison, but you should know that you bring uniqueness to what you do, just by being you. Know who you are, and invest in yourself.
So, quit striving to be better than the next person, just do your best at each given moment. Work with excellence at all times. Celebrate the wins and success of others, and always have in mind that their success doesn’t diminish yours. Their downfalls don’t make you shine better either.
We are all stars, and stars shine brighter together. There is room for you. There is a place for your talents and gifts- no matter how little you think it is. You are doing amazing where you are. Sending my love to you as we journey through this place called life ♥️
