Accountability for SDG4

n my previous post, I asked an important question on accountability for SDG4!

Let's find some answers:

When asking the question: "who takes accountability in education?" it is natural to think of the government as the sole responsible body.

But, in developing countries, the government can hardly finance the provision of education. Even so, the government can only be held accountable by citizens in a democratic country.

Unfortunately, there are several developing countries that exist without a free and fair election.

So who should we hold accountable?

Here's my response and some suggestions:

Education is a collective effort of all citizens, nations, organizations: so we all should be accountable.

1. To avoid ambiguity about this, clear lines of responsibility and targets must be set up, so each body knows its role.

2. There need to be provisions for laws that sanction governments and bodies who abandon their duties and commitments towards achieving quality education.

3. The citizens need laws that empower them to question governments that do not perform their necessary duties.

4. Citizens need data to hold the government responsible.

What are you thoughts?

How do we improve accountability towards SDG4?
